Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some topics which are frequently asked about by current and prospective residents:

 

 

ACCESSIBILITY

 

We have the means to accommodate special needs in both our new and existing apartments. Needs will be accommodated to the best of our abilities on a case by case basis. There are several accessible apartments which comply with the Fair Housing Act and have been evaluated using the UFAS (Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards).

AIR CONDITIONING

If desired, in traditional apartments, one window air conditioning unit provided by the resident may be installed in a designated living room window. Maximum voltage is 120V. The Jardine Apartments office has a limited number of AC units available for rental. (Note: Renovated Apartments are equipped with window air conditioning units. The newly constructed apartments are equipped with central air conditioning.)

APPLICATIONS

Students Currently Living On-Campus

Jardine residents neet to go through the RSVP process and submit an online application, paying the $30.00 application fee to renew their agreement past June. Residence Hall students will go through the RSVP process in February to preference a space in Jardine.

Students Currently Living Off-Campus

An application for Jardine Apartments will be sent upon request or can be submitted electronically. It is processed as soon as it is returned to Housing and Dining Services with the $30.00, nonrefundable application fee. Assignments are made on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Applications are valid for one academic year only. Transfer to a future semester within the same academic year may be requested once without an additional fee. You will receive notification of assignment based on information provided on the application. It is your responsibility to contact the Jardine Apartments' office regarding any change in application information.

Residents will be applying for an apartment, which means that you could rent a two-bedroom apartment for one person.

CANCELLATION POLICY

The terms of the agreement are enforced upon receipt of the acceptance card and deposit in the Jardine Apartments' office. This assignment may be canceled by contacting the Jardine Apartments' office in writing. The deposit will be forfeited with cancellation.

 

DEPOSIT AND RENT

A deposit equal to one month's rent is required upon notification of apartment assignment. Rent is due between the first and fifteenth day of the month. A late fee is assessed after the fifteenth of the month on any balance greater than $19.99.

ELLIGIBILITY

Jardine Apartments are residences for K-State students who:

  • are married, with or without children
  • are single parents with primary custody or regular visitation of children
  • are single undergraduate students enrolled in their second year or subsequent at Kansas State University or transferring from another institution of higher education with at least 30 hours of earned credits.
  • are single nontraditional students (at least 25 years old)
  • are single graduate students
  • are persons conducting postdoctoral research
  • are visiting scholars

FREEZERS AND DISHWASHERS

Small freezers with a capacity no greater than 15 cubic feet and a motor no larger than 1/4 hp are allowed. Portable dishwashers are not allowed. Dishwashers are available in new construction.

 

FURNISHINGS

In traditional and renovated apartments, unfurnished apartments are equipped with a stove, refrigerator and kitchen cabinets. Furnished apartments have appliances, dinette set, sofa, lounge chairs, desk, coffee table and end table. Whether renting a one- or two-bedroom furnished apartment, only one double bed with an innerspring mattress and one dresser with a mirror will be provided. Furniture is not provided in the new apartments

MEAL PLANS

Meal plans are available to Jardine residents and rates will be published as soon as they are approved by the Board of Regents.

OTHER FEATURES

Cable TV hookup and a telephone jack are provided in each apartment in traditional and renovated apartments, and in each room of the new construction. Affordable laundry facilities are located on the premises for those in traditional and renovated apartments, and new machines are located in each newly constructed apartment. The Frith Community Center and Jardine Picnic Shelter are available for use by all Jardine residents. A rental fee is assessed for use of the Community Center.

 

PARKING

A Jardine parking permit is required to park in the Jardine Apartment Complex. Permits can be purchased from the K-State Parking Services located in Edwards Hall. There is a planned one bedroom to one parking space ratio atthe completion of Phase 1. As we move to a more pedestrian friendly complex, parking will be available, but it may not be right outside of your apartment door.

 

PETS

The existing pet policy established by the Jardine Residents' Council and Housing and Dining Services does not permit any pets other than tropical fish in a tank that holds a maximum of 30 gallons of water. The number of fish tanks cannot exceed the number of bedrooms in the apartment. Guide dogs, hearing assistance dogs and service dogs are permitted, as needed, for individuals with impaired sight and/or hearing with the appropriate documentation.

PIANOS

Pianos are permitted on the first floor only.

RATES

All residents of the apartment will be billed equally for the space. Example: If one person were to rent a two bedroom beginning August 1, 2008, the monthly rent would be $980.00. If two people were to rent a two bedroom apartment, the monthly rent for each person would be $490.00.

Your financial aid can be applied toward your rent while you at Jardine.

RENTERS INSURANCE

University insurance covers only university buildings. Residents need to provide their own protection against loss of, damage to, or theft of the property of the resident. Information about insurance is available through the Office of Student Activities and Services (OSAS) located in the K-State Union.

ROOMMATES

Residents are required to find their own roommates. We do have a roommate matching system which residents can utilize to help them locate potential roommates. It is the choice of the resident who has already secured an apartment to okay any person as their roommate.

Same sex only roommates are permitted for single residents. Siblings of opposite gender may not live together.

SUBLEASING

Subleasing is not permitted in the Jardine Apartment Complex. A summer storage option is available during the months of June and July if you are returning for the next agreement term (August-June).

UTILITIES

All apartment costs include gas, water and trash service. it is the responsibility of the residents of each apartment to determine who will set up each account with the various service companies and determine how payments will be collected from all residents of the apartment.

WATERBEDS

Waterbeds are permitted on the first floor only.
